Product FAQ

What does open-ear mean?

Open-ear earbuds sit outside your ear canal instead of sealing inside it. Push 540 Open uses directional audio to deliver clear sound while allowing you to hear your surroundings. This makes it a great choice for outdoor workouts, commuting, and situations where situational awareness is important.

Does Push 540 Open block outside noise?

No. Push 540 Open is intentionally designed to keep you aware of your surroundings. Unlike in-ear earbuds that create a seal for passive noise isolation, this open-ear design prioritizes airflow, comfort, and environmental awareness.

How is Push 540 Open different from in-ear earbuds?

In-ear earbuds sit inside the ear canal using ear gels to create a sealed fit that blocks outside noise. Push 540 Open rests outside the ear canal and uses an over-ear hook for retention. The result is breathable comfort, no ear pressure, and increased awareness during activity.

Is Push 540 Open comfortable for all-day wear?

Yes. The open-ear design eliminates ear canal pressure, and the lightweight hanger structure distributes weight securely around the ear. This makes Push 540 Open comfortable for long listening sessions, workdays, and extended workouts.

Does Push 540 Open work well with glasses?

Yes. While hanger-style earbuds wrap over the ear, Push 540 Open is designed with a low-profile support structure to remain comfortable for most glasses wearers. The lightweight build minimizes pressure behind the ear.

Is Push 540 Open good for phone calls?

Yes. The open design allows you to hear your own voice naturally while speaking, and the directional microphone placement helps deliver clear call quality during movement.

Who should choose Push 540 Open?

Push 540 Open is ideal for people who:

-Want to stay aware of their surroundings
-Run, cycle, or train outdoors
-Prefer earbuds that do not sit inside the ear canal
-Need a secure fit for high movement activity

If you want immersive, sealed audio that blocks distractions, an in-ear style may be a better fit. If you want secure, breathable awareness with strong sound, Push 540 Open is built for you.

What makes hanger-style earbuds different?

Hanger-style earbuds use an over-ear support structure to improve stability. In open-ear models like Push 540 Open, the hanger keeps the earbud locked in place while the speaker sits just outside the ear canal for awareness and airflow.

How does the detachable neckband work?

The detachable magnetic neckband connects to both earbuds for added security during runs, rides, or workouts. It keeps your buds safely around your neck when not in use, so you don’t have to pocket them or risk dropping one. When you’re done, the neckband stores neatly inside the charging case and doubles as a lanyard.

How do the touch controls work?

Push 540 Open features intuitive touch controls on each earbud for media and calls. Tap to play or pause, skip tracks, answer calls, and activate your mobile assistant—no need to reach for your phone.

Can I disable the touch controls?

Yes. If you prefer zero accidental taps during workouts, you can disable touch controls directly in the Skullcandy App. Customize your setup to match how you move.

Are Push 540 Open earbuds waterproof?

Push 540 Open has an IP44 rating, meaning they’re sweat- and water-resistant. They’re built to handle tough workouts, splashes, and light rain—but they’re not designed for swimming or full water submersion.

Overall rating: 3.6206896 / 5 from 29 reviews.

Quite disappointed

"On the second use, one side ran out of battery which I odd because they were in the charge case all day. They are brand new with no debris in the charge prongs. Pushed them down hard and managed to get a slight charge on them, but highly inconsistent on if they even charge. They also off-sync from each other for some reason, where there is a voice lag listening to audio where they constantly disconnect and reconnect. Probably the worst headphones I’ve ever purchased."

They are too large for

"They are too large for my ears, and since there is no padding around the ear hole area, they dig into my ears, so I find them painful to wear. Unfortunately, it is too late to request a refund because it says fourteen days, which I find a bit odd. I cannot wear them, so it was a complete waste of money. If your ears are tiny, these are definitely not worth buying."

Shop app integration accidentally and

"Shop app integration accidentally and incorrectly ordered these. Case feels cheap, but sound and call clarity is great. I like the magnetic lanyard. They do require constant re adjustment to keep them close within ear canal."

A reasonable budget open earphone option

"For the price point, the Push 540 does its job. Open ear design sits comfortably during runs and does not fall out or feel insecure. The magnetic braided connector is a nice plus that also doubles as a strap for the case. My main gripe is the poor audio equalization. These earbuds will try to auto-equalize and play audio always at the same volume, which really distorts any music that have a wide range of dynamics (so pretty much all music). I think these would be great for podcasts, but falls short of the sound quality I've come to expect from other SkullCandy products."

Same Flaw as Previous Pairs

"My main gripe with with this pair, is the same as the old pair of Push Active. They keep connecting automatically from the case that's in my bag. So, when my phone sound suddenly stops working, it's because it magically connected to the earphones in my bag. Then I get to the gym and the earphones are uncharged, that's because they've been connected to my phone for half the day."

Daniel Z. (4/5)

They fit nicely and are

"They fit nicely and are lightweight. I do wish that they came in a smaller size. My ears are a little short and the arc in these headphones is a little big so they sometimes come off if I'm fixing my hair."

Manavi S. (4/5)

I originally bought a set

"I originally bought a set of these for me to try at work. I am in a lot of teams meetings as well as needing to pay attention to the office operations and these are the most comfortable headset I have used. I was so impressed with them that I have purchased 3 more for everyone else in my family."

Candace K. (5/5)

You've done it again. I've

"You've done it again. I've been buying Skullcandys for 15 years and have never been disappointed. The push 540 are comfortable and allow for enough sound to come through that people don't need to shout to get my attention. My only issue is a little bit of feedback in the right ear when music is paused, and they temporarily are at full volume right after unpausing but quickly return to your set volume."

Kent C. (4/5)

Great sound quality. Can hear

"Great sound quality. Can hear the world while still hearing my music. Comfortable around the ear and in my ear. My only con, and it is not enough to lose a star: when you pause the sound, when you start it again, it plays a bit loud before going back down to your selected volume!"

Eileen G. (5/5)

So far so good. I

"So far so good. I purchased these a couple weeks ago and I'm impressed with the lightweight of them. Feels good around my ears and the sound is great. The case has been convenient."
